Different Types of PrEP Available for Men

When it comes to reducing the risk of HIV transmission, Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) has proven to be an invaluable tool. For men who are at risk of contracting HIV, there are different types of PrEP available to meet their specific needs. Let's delve into these options:

1. Truvada®: Truvada® is a widely recognized and commonly used form of PrEP. It is designed for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity, who are at risk for HIV through sexual activity or injection drug use. Truvada® has demonstrated significant effectiveness in reducing the risk of contracting HIV when taken consistently as prescribed. Additionally, generic versions of Truvada® are available, offering more accessible options for those seeking this form of PrEP.

2. Descovy®: Another type of PrEP available for men is Descovy®. Unlike Truvada®, Descovy® is specifically recommended for sexually active men and transgender women who are at risk of getting HIV. This form of PrEP has not yet been studied for HIV prevention during receptive vaginal sex. However, it has shown effectiveness in reducing the risk of HIV transmission through other means of sexual activity. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if Descovy® is suitable for your specific circumstances.

It's crucial to remember that PrEP should always be used in combination with other preventive measures, such as condom usage, to provide comprehensive protection against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

At STAR Health Center we understand the importance of personalized care and informed decision-making when it comes to sexual health. Our experienced healthcare professionals can guide you through the process of choosing the right type of PrEP for your individual needs. We offer comprehensive information, consultations, and support to ensure that you can make the best decisions for your sexual health.
